Barcelona is planning to retire the jersey of longtime captain Juan Carlos Navarro after the latter’s decision to put an end to his professional career.

According to Radio Catalonia, Barcelona is considering the team’s 2018-2019 ACB premiere game against Gran Canaria on September 30 for a ceremony during which Navarro’s #11 jersey will be hanged in the rafters of “Palau Blaugrana”.

A press conference is also expected to be held by Barcelona by the end of next week, with the presence of both Navarro and club president Josep Maria Bartomeu.

Navarro officially retired from basketball earlier this month following a career of that began in 1997 and spanned through three decades. He spent all of his playing years with Barcelona minus a one-season stint in the NBA with the Memphis Grizzlies in 2007-2008.

Over his career, Navarro, a Barcelona and Spanish national team icon, won numerous titles and team/individual distinctions on a national, continental and global level, with both the “Blaugrana” and his country’s NT.
