Lithuanian national team and EuroLeague veteran Rimantas Kaukenas announced his retirement from basketball at age 41.

Kaukenas uploaded the following statement on his Instagram profile:

“This is it……… !!!! It’s officially over… I am retiring from basketball. I have so much to say, so many people to thank, that I am afraid that I will forget to thank everyone who influenced and helped me in my basketball career. So I will choose to thank you and share all things with you during the Charitable basketball game between Reggio Emilia and UCAM Murcia at Pala Bigi in Reggio Emilia !!! During the halftime symbolically the veterans of Lithuanian National Team will play Italian Ex National Team players to raise funds for children battling cancer!!! Please come to my last game in Reggio Emilia on the 21st of September at 20:30, where I will step on the court for the last time!”

In 18 years of professional basketball, Kaukenas won numerous titles at a club and national team level. He’s been a four-time Italian League champion with Montepaschi Siena and a two-time Lithuanian League champion with Lietuvos Rytas (2002) and Zalgiris Kaunas(2013) while winning the Italian Supercup five times (four with Siena and once with Reggio Emilia).

With the Lithuanian national team, Kaukenas won the bronze medal in the EuroBasket 2007.
