Barcelona announced that center Ante Tomic will be the team captains in 2018-2019. The Croatian player succeeds Juan Carlos Navarro following the latter’s retirement this summer.

Spanish forward/center Pierre Oriola will be the team’s second captain, Barcelona also announced.

Tomic, 31, has been with Barcelona for six years, more than any other player in the current roster of the team. Since he arrived in the club in 2012 from archrival Real Madrid, Tomic helped Barcelona win the ACB titles of 2013 and 2014, the 2013 and 2018 Copa Del Rey trophies plus the 2015 Supercup.

“It’s an honor, I’m very proud. It’s a great responsibility, especially after Navarro’s farewell. Being a Barcelona captain is incredible and I’m very happy,” Tomic said per the official website of Barcelona.

Tomic has played 455 games with Barcelona. He currently holds the record for most games played by a foreign player with the Blaugrana.
