Ukrainian big man Grigorij Khizhnyak has died. The former player for many years was the ambassador of Ukrainian basketball, playing around Europe outside the borders of his country.
He started his career at SC Nikolaev and then moved to BC Budivelnyk Kyiv. He played in Russia with Avtodor Saratov and Dinamo St. Petersburg, in Lithuania with Zalgiris Kaunas, in Greece for Peristeri and Makedonikos and he returned to his country for Kyiv and Dnipro, before finishing his career with Budivelnyk in the 2009-10 season.
The EuroLeague, Zalgiris Kaunas and Peristeri, two of his former teams outside Ukraine, were among the first to offer their condolences.
