Khimki Moscow head coach Giorgos Bartzokas highlighted the lack of fighting spirit by his players as one of the main causes of his team’s defeat to Olympiacos in Game 1 of the EuroLeague season.

“Today was a good game especially for our newcomers to learn what is EuroLeague,” Bartzokas said in the post-game presser. “EuroLeague is a league that you need physicality and you need to be concentrated. You need to be ready to fight for every ball. Today we took what we deserved, you know. We deserved to lose the game the way we lost it. In all battles, post-ups, loose rebounds. In every battle we were second. This is important at this level. Olympiacos had confidence from this and they deserved to win.”

“It’s the first game of this season’ EuroLeague. We need to learn how to play together. We cannot beat anybody if we play one against five. We need everybody’s contribution on defense and offense. We need to understand what is the role of each one in the team. And we need to become a team. If we become a team, we have potential and I’m positive. But we have to learn from this game,” Bartzokas added.
