When all was said and done, Fenerbahce got the 88-84 win over Bayern Munich but the hosts suffered almost until the last second.

With five minutes left the score was tied at 74 after a shot by Jan Vesely and everything was possible. A steal by Gigi Datome and two free throws by Kostas Sloukas gave to the hosts a crucial 81-78 lead with two minutes left. Vladimir Lucic made a one-point game (81-80) for Bayern, but Marko Guduric answered with a big three (84-80).

Lucic, Stefan Jovic and Devin Booker missed consecutive chances to score for the guests and Jan Vesely with a dunk gave to Fenerbahce a six-point lead (86-80), sealing the outcome of the game.

From the winning side, Datome scored 19 points, Vesely added 16 and Kostas Sloukas finished the game with eight points and 10 assists.

As Fenerbahce’s coach Zeljko Obradovic said after the game: “This is a EuroLeague game. If somebody expects that any game over here will be easy, this is the wrong way. I am very proud of my team and I believe it was a very good game, and we beat an excellent opponent. This is what I believe – then, if someone believes it was not a good day, it is your opinion, what I can do?”

It was a close contest from wire to wire. Fenerbahce led by two points at the end of the first quarter (28-26) and by three at halftime (51-48). Things did not change in the third period which ended with a tie at 65. Bayern had a great shooting night and played hard-nosed defense.

The guests made nine out of 18 threes for a solid 50%, Booker scored 15 points, Lucic had 13 and Jovic 12 and six assists.
