Olimpia Milano grabbed a 98-92 victory over Darussafaka in Istanbul for Round 7 of Turkish Airlines EuroLeague.
Mike James and Nemanja Nedovic put on a scoring feast for the visitors, both finishing with impressive performances from the three-point line. James scored a team-high of 21 points, dropping four out of eight from beyond the arch along with five assists and three steals, while Nedovic put on a 17-point performance, with five out of eight from afar.
Despite slightly leading in the boards’ race (32 compared to Milano‘s 27), Darussafaka lacked consistency in defending Milano’s long-range shooting, that turned out to be a key factor to the victory, if we also add Vladimir Micov’s 4/6 in 3-pointers (18 p. overall tonight).
Simone Pianigiani noted the importance of open-threes, though thinks his team has ground to improve, as he commented in his post-game quotes.
“Fortunately we showed the desire to win, we stayed solid in three-four key possessions on defense and on offense we have quality. We got some open shots, open three-pointers, but we need to make a better effort in other parts of the game. “
Michael Eric’s 16-point performance wasn’t enough to help the hosts overcome Milano’s crescendo and now the team sinks to 1-5 with its fifth straight defeat. However, the Italian side moves up to 5-2 in and bounces back from a tough loss to CSKA Moscow last week.
