Team captain Eulis Baez had a career-night with 16 points, 10 rebounds and four assists for 32 PIR, as Gran Canaria snapped a four-game skid by beating Maccabi Tel Aviv 84 – 78 at home to improve their EuroLeague record to 2-5.

“We spent a couple of days working in our defense and a couple of things in order to improve. We also did a good job offensively today,” Baez said in the post-game flash interview.

After this result, Maccabi fell to 1-6 and the bottom of the standings. Coach Neven Spahija team managed to come back from down nine points, with three minutes left in the third quarter and tie it 65 – 65 in the mid of the fourth, but fell short down the stretch.

Some hasty offensive choices by the “Yellows” allowed the hosts to reclaim a lead. Baez scored and dished out dimes to help Gran Canaria make it 79 – 72 with 3:23 left and this margin proved to be safe for his team since Maccabi managed only a bucket in the next three minutes.

Chris Evans added 17 points for the winning squad. Michael Roll scored a game-high 15 for Maccabi.
