Darussafaka Tefken Istanbul prevailed over visiting Olympiacos Piraeus with a 79-75 victory for Round 15 of Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and will end the year with a morale-boosting result after going winless for two and a half months!

Toney Douglas played a key role in the final quarter and was productive all over the floor with 19 points, nine assists, four boards, five steals, while Zanis Peiners also finished with 16 points and eight boards.

Last-placed Darussafaka (2-13) took the Greeks and former coach David Blatt by storm in the first half and managed to lead with a double-digit margin (42-31) at the end of it. Even though Olympiacos eventually trimmed the deficit, its overall performance offensively (poor shooting) didn’t allow a comeback victory to be achieved.

“Obviously, our defense in the first quarter was far from our standards. In the first half, we made a lot of mistakes that Darussafaka had turned into easy points. We did not score with good percentages and in the end, we could not win for these reasons”, commented David Blatt in his post-game quotes.

Olympiacos (9-6) was led by Janis Strelnieks and Zach LeDay, who finished with 15 and 12 points each.
