EuroLeague presented its focus on Rick Pitino. After a long career in the NCAA and the NBA, the 66-year-old American head coach took over Panathinaikos OPAP and discussed about the differences between basketball in North America and Europe. “I didn’t know what to expect” he admitted.
Talking about his decision to move to Greece he mentioned: “Outside of my family, the greatest love of my life is basketball for 42 years. My whole family was with me and I took off on Christmas day. They know I love basketball, they know I love teaching and motivating. I was without my love”.
Pitino didn’t leave out praise for his players saying: “I’ve coached 42 years pro and college. I’ve had great basketball teams, but this is the finest group from top to bottom. Great guys who are very eager to learn and have a strong desire to win”.
