As “Walla” reported, the EuroLeague Final Four may not be held in Athens next year, despite the fact that there’s an agreement in principle between all sides involved

Athens was working for quite some time in order to organize the 2020 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Final Four, despite an initial deal between the EuroLeague and the Greek authorities.

Despite the process of the talks, no official announcements were made and the Greek authorities have not yet provided the financial guarantees in order for the deal to be completed. What seems like a formality, turns out to be something bigger, considering also the fact the country is expected to have elections during 2019.

As the Israeli website” Walla” reported Kaunas and Paris are the possible alternatives, however, for the time being, Athens is still considered the front runner to hosts the event in 2020. Having said that, the initial deadline for financial guarantees has expired, those were not provided by Greek authorities and that’s why at this point alternative scenarios are also on the table.

If the Greek capital ends up losing next season’s Final Four, then the city should be considered the favorite to host the event in 2021.
