CSKA Moscow beat visiting Baskonia with an 82-78 victory at home in the last round of the regular season in Turkish Airlines EuroLeague.

Despite the defeat, and combined with Anadolu Efes‘s victory over Olimpia Milano a little earlier, the Vitoria side can rest assured with a place in the playoffs, no matter what happens with Friday’s results (they will only determine each team’s spot). Velimir Perasovic‘s squad finishes the first leg of the season on a 15-15 record.

In regards to the game, CSKA made its comeback in the fourth period after following their visitors for three quarters and was paced by the efforts of Will Clyburn (16 points) and Cory Higgins (14 points).

“We were kind of slow, too much reaction and not enough action on both ends and we were kind of waiting and waiting for something to happen. So we talked before the fourth quarter that we needed to see that fire and that belief in the eyes of the players and big congratulations to them, because we really outplayed them in that last quarter, outsmarted them offensively and defensively… Even though it didn’t change anything in the standings for us, it was a big win. Internally we wanted that win a lot”, mentioned Dimitris Itoudis in his post-game quotes.

On the other end of the court, Marcelinho Huertas posted a game-high performance of 17 points, while Shavon Shields and Vincent Poirier scored 12 points apiece.
