VITORIA-GASTEIZ Fenerbahce Beko guard Kostas Sloukas admitted that his team’s performance in the EuroLeague semifinal loss to Anadolu Efes wasn’t one of a team worthy of being in a championship game.

“We had the best season in Fenerbahce Beko history but in the end… we didn’t deserve to advance,” Sloukas told Eurohoops.

“There’s disappointment. There are no excuses regarding injuries or anything else. Our performance was horrible, especially in the second half. And particularly our defense. We allowed around 50 points in the second half.” Sloukas added.

Fenerbahce Beko had been the top defensive team this season. Yet Efes‘ offense was too much for them, particularly Shane Larkin (30 points) and Vasilije Micic (25 points).

“To allow 55 points by two players… there’s not much to say about this,” Sloukas said.

Now, Sloukas and his teammates will have to turn the attention to the Turkish BSL League playoffs. And they may face Efes in this competition as well.

“There’s an extra motivation. We  have to show that this is a game that it won’t be repeated again.”
