Rick Pitino won’t return to Panathinaikos next season, as the Naismith Hall of Famer turned down Panathinaikos‘ offer as earlier reported. The Greens confirmed the end of their co-operation with the coach on Saturday with a statement that reads:
“Panathinaikos BC OPAP would like to thank Mr. Rick Pitino for his excellent cooperation and wishes him every success in his life and in his career. Rick Pitino is one more outstanding personality of world sport who is part of Panathinaikos history, an amazing person and coach who honored with his presence both Greek and European basketball. The American Hall Of Famer is and will always remain a friend! Thank you for everything, coach!”
In his time with Panathinaikos, Pitino helped the team reach the Greek League championship and seize the Greek Cup.
