Barcelona football club signed a Dutch midfielder in Frenkie De Jong and before his presentation, club president Josep Maria Bartomeu talked for more than 25 minutes to the media which near the end managed to ‘slip’ a question about basketball and the possible signing of Nikola Mirotic:
“No, I cannot confirm it (the signing). We have some things to discuss with his agents, but I hope it ends well. I would like it, but I can’t confirm it because it may not end well. You never know how the negotiations can end. What I can tell you is that the negotiations are advanced. But it is not closed at all”, Bartomeu said.
The general consensus in the media is that Mirotic will sign with Barcelona. The club reportedly offered him a six-year, 70M euros gross income deal and although the player isn’t expected to sign for so long, his salary shouldn’t be too far off which would make him the highest paid player in Europe.
