Milos Teodosic explained with a very clear statement why he chose to play for Virtus Bologna. The Serbian magician wants to lead the old powerhouse to the EuroLeague again.
As he said during his presentation to the media: “The Euroleague is another of the reasons I am here. I believe that this club must be part of this competition. We must get there as soon as possible, starting from the EuroCup, by being the finalists. Virtus deserves it because of its tradition”.
Speaking about the team he added: “I did not expect such a warm welcome. I arrived in a big club, with an important story; but I’m here to push Virtus even higher. It will be a great season, I want to win wearing this shirt. You will see, we will take away a lot of satisfaction. I am very calm, I left the injuries behind me. Now I’m fine, I’ve been training all summer and I’m ready to go with the national team in the FIBA World Cup”.
The fact that the coach of the Serbian national team and basketball legend Sasha Djordjevic is also the coach of Virtus played its part. As Teodosic admitted: “The first time I spoke to him about Virtus was last February; It took a couple of hours, I didn’t need to be convinced to play here in Bologna. The first Final Four I watched in my life was with Virtus playing and having in the roster great champions like Nesterovic, Danilovic, and Ginobili. I want to restore this team to its past glory”.
The main opponent of Virtus Bologna in Italy is expected to be AX Armani Exchange Milan, which will be coached by Ettore Messina. “Olimpia is certainly a great team, it has a big budget and we respect them but we want to win the championship”, said Teodosic.
And of course, for the first time in years, the cross town-rival of Virtus Bologna, Fortitudo Bologna, will be playing also in the top division. “I know that everyone in the city expects this game, everyone wants to be part of it and I think it’s good for all Italian basketball that the derby is back”, added the Serb.
Teodosic will wear the number 44 since his favorite number 4 is retired in Virtus, because of Italian basketball legend Roberto Brunamonti.
