LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne inked 16-year-old Matthew Strazel to a professional contract, the French team announced on Wednesday. The press release notes that the young guard, who will turn 17 on August 5th, will join the first team’s training camp in September.
Strazel was invited to this summer’s Basketball Without Borders at Riga, Latvia, after his impressive season with ASVEL’s youth side. In 31 matches, he posted 14.3 points and 4.7 assists per contest.
The French guard also took part in the past couple of ANGT tournaments. He averaged 13.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.3 steals per match.
His next challenge is up and within ASVEL’s men squad. Strazel will have the opportunity to play in the EuroLeague and in the French competitions including LNB Pro A.
