Karolis Lukosiunas has impressed coach Sarunas Jasikevicius during his preseason tryouts with Zalgiris and has made the team for the upcoming season.

The 22-year-old played last season with Siauliai where he averaged 7.5 points, 1.5. rebounds and 1.3 assists in 35 appearances.

During his preseason stint with Zalgiris, Lukosiunas has been putting on good performances with his best against Khimki when he banked all six of his shots from behind the arc.

Per Zalgiris:

As the team heads forward to the season, the coaching staff of Zalgiris made its decision concerning the future of the young players on the roster.

Lukas Uleckas, Erikas Venskus, Karolis Lukosiunas, Matas Jogela and Vitalijus Kozys were all on the Zalgiris roster for the entirety of the preseason, and the coaches decided to have Lukosiunas, who came into the team on a tryout basis, filling out the roster.

Erikas Venskus and Vitalijus Kozys will continue playing in the NKL on the Zalgiris-2 team. With Venskus holding a two-way license, he will be eligible to join the main team in Betsafe-LKL matches.

Meanwhile, Uleckas and Jogela will be joining Betsafe-LKL side Prienai. Due to newly-instilled rules by the league, Zalgiris will be passing these players on to Prienai.

There were some changes in jersey numbers, too, as Nigel Hayes decided to exchange his #1 jersey for #10. Karolis Lukosiunas decided to take up number 16.

Zalgiris will soon be seeing its full roster come together, as Paulius Jankunas, Edgaras Ulanovas, Marius Grigonis and Lukas Lekavicius join the team’s practices on Tuesday having had some rest after Lithuania’s run in the FIBA Basketball World Cup, with Australia’s Jock Landale coming in on Wednesday.

Zalgiris tips-off in the Betsafe-LKL on the 22nd of September in Siauliai, with the team’s first home game set for the 25th of September against Pieno Zvaigzdes from Pasvalys.
