Kestutis Kemzura discussed recent developments in the Olympiacos camp with 24sek’s Donatas Urbonas admitting that he wasn’t expecting the decision for the Reds and David Blatt to part ways. “I was shocked” he confessed.

“I think everybody felt the same,” added the Lithuanian coach, “We were preparing some changes and thought we gonna have more time. But this is our life. We have to accept owners’ decisions. It was shocking but we have to go forward.”

“We joked that we survived even in harder times,” mentioned Blatt’s longtime assistant, “Maybe I also didn’t do my part. It was not only his fault. However, head coach takes all the blame. But it just went so fast.”

He made it clear that the 60-year-old Israeli-American was removed from his post due to the discouraging showing and loss to LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne last Friday. His parting ways with the Greek club had nothing to do with his health condition.

Kemzura also confirmed that he was asked to cover as interim head coach for the next couple of EuroLeague matches. “I have other problems right now, how to prepare the team in the best way before Friday’s game” he noted.
