Two days ago, FC Bayern Munich prevailed at home against Real Madrid. The tables were turned at Vitoria, with Baskonia defending its home and getting the 93-60 win.

Toko Shengelia scored 19 points, Matt Janning added 16 points, and Nik Stauskas scored 12, as Baskonia led from wire to wire, starting the game with a 29-10 fist quarter and never looking back after that.

Gregg Monroe and Maodo Lo added 18 and 12 points each for the losing side, but it is evident that Bayern was not ready for this game. There was a noticeable lack of energy that might be justified by the effort of the Germans at home to prevail over a bonified powerhouse like Real Madrid.

Still, the game was really one-sided and practically decided after the first ten minutes of action.

“Maybe one more day to rest played a role”

“After the first half, it was clear that they would win the game”, mentioned Dejan Radonjic. “They played with energy for 40 minutes. For us, our focus was really bad. It’s the first back-to-back games week. Of course, we have to analyze. Maybe [Baskonia having] one more day to rest than us played a role but they really showed energy”.

And that was a really important game for the hosts, as coach Velimir Perasovic explained: “It is important to win against direct rivals like Bayern. I think we played a serious game for maybe 35 minutes. Maybe at the beginning of the third quarter, we did not play good basketball. I am happy because this victory is very important. On Sunday we have Real Madrid in the Spanish League, so we cannot think forward more than one day. After that, we will be thinking about Milan, which is another great team.”
