Khimki Moscow Region put an end to Olimpia Milano‘s six-game winning streak and with an 87-79 victory, they move up to a 6-8 record. A 22-14 run in the final period was enough for the hosts to take control of the game and grab this valuable victory.

“We won, and it was a good game. It was tough, but we were stronger tonight. Once we played better defense, of course, we had better chances to run the fastbreak, to get fast offense. It worked tonight”, commented Rimas Kurtinaitis after the game.

The Italian side controlled the game for most of the first half, going to the lockers with a 51-47 advantage and Luis Scola (16 points) leading their efforts.

Khimki turned the tide in the second half and found themselves in charge of the game at 26′ with a 60-56 lead. The visitors’ reaction was fast and Sergio Rodriguez evened the score to 65 points by the end of the third period.

Shved and Jerebko take charge

In the wake of Janis Timma’s absence, Alexey Shved checked in for Khimki and posted 24 points, seven assists and four rebounds, once again leading the team in scoring. Jonas Jerebko complemented Shved’s efforts with 19 points and three rebounds.

Milano now moves to a 6-2 record as well and will look to recover next week, against Maccabi Tel Aviv and Anadolu Efes.
