Maccabi coach Giannis Sfairopoulos singled out two reasons which gave his players enough rest and energy to put on an offensive onslaught in EuroLeague win over Baskonia

Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv put on a highly effective offensive performance in the convincing win over KIROLBET Baskonia, and coach Giannis Sfairopoulos believes it was because of two reasons, both giving his squad much-needed rest.

As Sfairopoulos said in the press conference: “Today, we won the game mainly for two reasons. The first reason is that we didn’t play two games in the Israeli League we were supposed to. After we finished the previous EuroLeague game, we had a Cup game and a League game. Because of the situation of what happened, the game was canceled, so we had time to prepare this game.”

Maccabi‘s game vs. Hapoel Beer Sheva was postponed due to security concerns, as dozens of missiles were launched at Israel.

The coach compared the current situation with last season: “Last year when we played Baskonia, home and away, both games, we had two Israeli League games before the EuroLeague game. So, this is something we have to take under much consideration”.

In this EuroLeague era, rest is more than essential, and that also includes traveling conditions.

The second important reason is that we came here by charter flight, and the players were not fatigued but were fresh to play with energy and intensity you saw in the game. For that reason, I want to thank the owners that they gave us the charter flight”, Sfairopoulos noted.
