Victory-starved Valencia Basket defeated visiting FC Bayern Munich with an 82-56 win in Round 8 of Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and improved to a 2-6 record in the standings.

Vanja Marinkovic and Brock Motum led the efforts of the Spanish squad, adding 19 and 14 points each.

After a 7-0 run by Bayern at the beginning of the third period, the hosts reacted and even expanded their lead to 15 points at 32′. Time turned out to be on Valencia‘s side that kept its safety net and marched to the victory in the end while keeping the visitors to just 8 points in the final period.

Vladimir Lucic and Maodo Lo were Bayern’s two scorers with double-digits, posting 14 and 11 points apiece. The German side now falls to a 3-5 record and will look to bounce back next week when it hosts Olympiacos and Panathinaikos in Munich.

On the other hand, Valencia will look to turn this win to a streak in against Zenit and Khimki respectively next week at home.

“We believe in our work”

“The most important thing for us is believing in our work. This team was working well every day and improving every day. Sometimes, we need the inspiration, the confidence, the energy because it is a very hard experience for us to play the EuroLeague and the Spanish League”, commented coach Jaume Ponsarnau after the game.

For the visiting side, former NBA player Greg Monroe scored just four points on 1/6 FG and also had four turnovers, along with three rebounds, two assists and two steals.
