Panathinaikos‘ head coach, Sasa Djordjevic, gave an interview on the Sunday’s edition of the Greek newspaper “Ethnos”, as the beginning of the season is less than two weeks away, and among other things, he said that his target is to convince Dimitris Diamantidis to reverse his decision to retire next summer and continue for one more year.

He also mentioned that Panathinaikos always has high expectations, as the team wants to claim all titles this season, while he considers any comparison with Zeljiko Obradovic to be a mistake.

Read what the Greens’ coach said on the Sunday edition of the Greek newspaper “Ethnos”:

About the comparison with Obradovic:

“I think it’s a mistake to compare somebody with somebody else. Nobody can be compared with Zeljico. He is the best coach of all times and he made his own history in Panathinaikos. That’s why I don’t want to compare myself with somebody else. I am the person who will do anything to help Panathinaikos to claim as many trophies as possible.”

Regarding Dimitris Diamantidis:

“He enjoys playing basketball and we will enjoy this with him this season. We will do our best to help him have a great season so as to reverse his initial decision next summer. My message to him is : “Diamantidis, don’t leave”! This will be one of our targets! To convince him to reverse his decision! We will see, though, what will happen next summer.”

About Serbia’s presence in Eurobasket:

“There are many explanations why we didn’t claim first place. I think fourth place is a good result. Although we didn’t earn a medal, it’a success that we were among the best four teams of Europe, in the most difficult tournament of all times. It’s certain that Serbia will continue to fight for the medals in all competition they will take part.”
