Euroleague Basketball and its 60 member clubs are dedicating this week’s games in both the Turkish Airlines Euroleague and the Eurocup to support the efforts of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to help vulnerable migrants.

At all 30 games in both competitions throughout Europe this week, fans will be shown messages of support for the Red Cross and Red Crescent campaign called #ProtectHumanity. The #ProtectHumanity campaign seeks to meet the humanitarian needs of migrants, protect them, prevent loss of life, and respect their dignity in any place, under any circumstances.

Players from both teams in each game will show the message at center court prior to tip off, assuring that it will be seen also by television audiences around the world.

The game-related activities of Euroleague Basketball teams this week on behalf of the Red Cross and Red Crescent will include making fans aware of the possibility of making donations to support the humanitarian needs of vulnerable migrants. Those donations may be made to the Red Cross and Red Crescent through a special collaboration with Euroleague Basketball at http://amma.do/EuroleagueBasketball. Funds will support the Red Cross and Red Crescent humanitarian response.

“Euroleague Basketball is proud that our clubs have taken up the call by the Red Cross and Red Crescent to protect humanity in such very difficult circumstances as those of vulnerable migrants displaced from their homes,” Roser Queraltó, Chief Business Development Officer of Euroleague Basketball, said. “As we have seen again and again, and already this season specifically concerning this humanitarian emergency, clubs and fans around Europe are ready to help when asked, and this is another example of their solidarity.”

“We thank Euroleague for showing solidarity to vulnerable migrants in Europe and across the world. Red Cross and Red Crescent societies in 28 countries in Europe – supported by more than 25,000 volunteers – have provided humanitarian assistance to hundreds of thousands of people on the move throughout their journey. Support from Euroleague fans will enable the Red Cross and Red Crescent to continue to respond to humanitarian needs,” said Simon Missiri, Director, Europe Region, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

The Red Cross and Red Crescent invites supporters to visit www.ifrc.org/protecthumanity and stand in solidarity with vulnerable people on the move. Sign the petition and help make the responsibility to #ProtectHumanity universal.
