Euroleague CEO Jordi Bertomeu was the guest of last night’s basketball radio show of RAC1 and he spoke to Marc Mundet about the new Euroleague project and the issue with Panathinaikos.

The Greeks are the only A licence team which has not yet signed the new deal, but Bertomeu believes that the issue will be resolved soon: “PAO’s situation is no solved yet, but I hope it will. It’s not a big problem, just a matter of time”.

And despite the fact that 11 out of 16 spots are fixed, Bertomeu believed that all top teams of Europe will fit in the final format: “Those who have ambition for growing up, won’t be excluded. We have never locked the League, there are 5 doors. Luckily, it’s a very demanded place and there’re many teams who want be there. But I think it will be solved soon”.

There’s also one more issue, the national team qualifying windows which will start at 2017. Bertomeu confirmed that, but believes that the national leagues will not have any problem with the new calender: “In our project, the winter windows are still pending of solution. Clubs are opposed to them. National Leagues haven’t take the new model badly. Just 3 weeks ago, they voted for an identical proposal by FIBA”.
