According to reports from Italy, the hosting of the pre-Olympic tournament will cost 2 million euros which are already covered by the Italian government, however the president of the Serbian basketball federation raised this number to 3,2 million euros.
According to Dragan Djilas the initial cost of 2 million euros will be also covered by the Serbian government, however as he said: “We offered 2,5 million euros and the total cost of the tournament will be 3,2 million euros. Those extra 700.000 euros will be covered by sponsors and the tickets’ sales. It’s not a secret that other countries offered much more money. However FIBA has taken its decision. For our country this is amount of money is more than big, but we will cover it”.
According to Djilas, Serbia will not face either Greece or France, which will be among the top seeded teams in the upcoming draw for the three tournaments. That means that Greece or France will have to travel to Philipinnes.
