Giannis Bourousis’ amazing season continues with his second monthly MVP award by Liga Endesa. The Greek center was the MVP of December and he is also the MVP of January.
It’s a logical choice, because Bourousis has won two player of the week award on January, averaging a 24.75 ranking. Despite missing one of the five games Laboral Kutxa gave on January, Bourousis registered a career best in scoring (26 p.), passing (6 as.) and ranking (40) in Liga Endesa. Yet his numbers don’t do justice to how pivotal Bourousis is for Baskonia‘s offense, and not only. He is the leader of the squad not only because of his extremely qualitative game, not only because of his experience but because he also makes his teammates feel safe on court.
This relationship is two sided, of course. The first thing that Bourousis wanted to say in his comments about the award, was his wishes about his injured teammates, Tornike Shengelia. As he said: “I want to dedicate the award to my teammate and friend Toko Shengelia, who will be sidelined with a knee injury and we will miss him. The rest of us are going to give everything to keep winning in both competitions (Liga Endesa and Euroleague)”.
