Finally there are hopes for some kind of communication between between Euroleague and FIBA, according to the following press release of the international federation.

However it’s obvious that FIBA remains focused on the champions league project and wants from the Euroleague a “concrete and constructive proposals that protect national leagues and national teams”.

The press release is the following: “FIBA confirmed on Friday that it has received a request to meet with the Euroleague and its “reduced size committee” of Euroleague clubs and executives.

The timing of the request seems to be related to the fact that FIBA, the national federations and the domestic leagues are working intensively together on finalising the details of the Basketball Champions League.

In this respect, FIBA is pleased to see that clubs around Europe have been so far overwhelmingly positive towards the project and have encouraged national federations and leagues to move ahead in a responsible way to prepare for and launch the Basketball Champions League as of the 2016-2017 season.

At the same time, FIBA’s door will always be open to the 11 clubs that have committed to Euroleague and discussions will take place if concrete and constructive proposals that protect national leagues and national teams are presented.

For the time being, FIBA is focused on delivering a product corresponding to the needs of the market and European basketball as a whole and looks forward to welcoming to Munich on Monday all stakeholders for the next steps in this exciting project”.
