After being an integral part of the “miracle” that Pinar Karsiyaka accomplished last year in Turkey, D.J. Strawberry now celebrated his second consecutive title after winning the Greek Basket League with Olympiacos.

“It’s unbelievable”, he said to Eurohoops. “It’s the thing for which we have been working and prepared for all season. We faced many difficulties, our team was plagued with injuries. We had many ups and downs. It is incredible to finish as champions, especially considering the fact that the Finals were crazy. Anyone could have won it”.

Buzzer-beating shots, last-second “daggers”, comebacks, home-court breaks by both teams. The series between Olympiacos and Panathinaikos was packed with all sorts of crazed action and thrilling finales. “And I I think that few players have been a part of such a series, especially in Finals. Not many have experienced this kind of game sequence. Both teams played great basketball. As a fan, you can’t ask for much more. Four great games that could have won either way. We just fought harder and the way things turned out for us makes it more amazing”. Which was the turning points for his team that led it win the title? “Spanoulis’ buzzer beater in Game 2 gave us new life and everything took its course”.

Back to back championships for Olympiacos and for the 30-year old player as well. Does he have the gene of the champion inside of him? I wouldn’t say that exactly. When I arrive in a team, and in every squad I play with, I try to bring my fighting spirit. I try to bring my positive attitude and my energy every time I step on the floor. I am thankful to have won these two championships these years. I’ve been part of great teams, played at the side of great players and teammates. I learned a lot from everybody Hopefully I can make them three in a row next year”.

D.J. Strawberry‘s contract with Olympiacos is for 1+1 seasons. And he wants to find himself playing for the Reds in the next season as well. “If they want me to stay, I would love to stay. 100%. We are talking about a great group of guys and great organization. They have done nothing but treating me the best. I have nothing negative to say, even if I’m not coming back. It’s been a great experience. I enjoyed every moment and playing with every guy here. I would love to be back. We’ll see what it happens.”
