After suffering an injury (plantar fasciitis) during Game 3 of the Greek Basket League finals, Giorgos Printezis was forced to watch the last game of the series from the sidelines. Today he confirmed something that was, more or less, expected. That he will be unable to play for the Greek national team this summer.

“Yesterday I informed coach Fotis Katsikaris that I won’t be able to help him and the team”, Printezis revealed to Syros Sports. “He showed a total understanding to what I told him, something that made me really glad. But generally I am quite sad for not being able to join th eteam this year. And that is because in the last two years our efforts have been pretty good and the final outcome wasn’t fair for us. The team was winning every game and we were playing good basketball. But we lost two knock-out games, one in each tournament, and that was it”

The Olympiacos‘ power forward explained that the time-frame of his recovery will prohibit him from joining the rest of his Greek NT teammates’ efforts to make it to the Olympics. “The Olympic Games challenge is great for every athlete and I’d very much like to be there. Unfortunately I can’t play this year, since my foot needs at least one month to get fixed. Also, I will have a chance to be with my mother in vacations this years and spend as much time as possible with here (Printezis father passed away some weeks ago). I will sit and rest for about 40 days and then I will work on my weaknesses in order to be better next year. I wish the national team the best. My thought and energy will be with the guys from the national team”.
