After a negotiations that started almost a month ago and a new offer which was made two days ago, Chris Singleton is ready to sign a contract with the Greens and not taking the offer made by Maccabi Tel Aviv.

During the last week, Panathinaikos‘ focus turned to other players, or at least that was the impression given, Maccabi during the same period of time tried to persuade the American forward to continue his career in Tel Aviv and yesterday the Israelis believed that they were near a deal. That’s also part of the explanation about making the final decision and releasing Trevor Mbakwe.

However, Panathinaikos made the right move, offered a better 1+1 year contract and at this point the Greens are ready to win the race against Maccabi Tel Aviv.

In Athens there’s a quiet optimism about the happy end of the negotiations and there’s concrete hope that in the next hours the signed contracts will be send to them. Even if the deal is not year finalized, the offer of Panathinaikos seems to be exactly what the player would like to see on paper.

So unless something dramatic happens, Singleton is expected to be the first big summer addition in Panathinaikos’ roster, a player who can support in the best possible way the vision of coach Pedoulakis on the court. Singleton can guard multiple position both in the post and in the back court and he is the ideal player for the kind of basketball that Panathinaikos wants to present next season.
