During the last 24 hours, the world has been following the recent developments with the failed military coup in Turkey with great interest. And Luigi Datome has been paying extra attention, considering the fact that he is a player for Turkish powerhouse Fenerbahce.

What did he feel when watching the images from Turkey on TV? “A feeling of despair. It’s never good to see this kind of scenes on TV”, he said in Sportmediaset.it. “Military operations and such. Regardless of whether it is the country you live in or not”.

If there were any doubts about him going back to Istanbul, the Italian forward made his return to Turkey and Fenerbahce abundantly clear. “I’m not afraid to go back to Istanbul. I’ll be there in about a month. The situation is now normalizing and all I think is coming back. The whole incident will not change my choice. I have a contract with Fenerbahce for the next year. And all me and my teammates will try to repeat a great season.”

He continued by saying that: “I felt worried about the people working in Fenerbahce. My teammates and everyone who is related to the club. Thankfully they are all safe. Now it’s important that everything is back to normal.”
