No player from the Spanish national team announced that he is going to retire and Juan Carlos Navarro also spoke with some harsh words about those who were expecting them to do.
As he said about his future: “We’ll see. We’ll enjoy this. I don’t know who is leaving, but I just do not, if only because I have said it many times. There is much talk about a cycle which is closing, there are players who have been long parts of this team, while Rudy Fernandez and Sergio Llull can be the new leaders. Therefore it depends on how the next season will end up and on what condition we will be physically. Some didn’t want to see me here, but now they have to shut up about me and about many other”.
Navarro is the only member of the Spanish national team who took part in the Olympics for a fifth time. As he admitted: “In Sydney, during my first Games I could not have imagine playing in five tournaments. This team continues to achieve success and win. The numbers are obvious. We have the respect of USA and nobody can take that away from us”.
