Despite being 29 years old, Stefan Markovic stated that the Rio Olympic Games may have been his last tournament with the Serbian national team.

“I don’t know if I will be part of the team again”, he said when he arrived in Belgrade after winning the silver medal in Rio and everyone is trying to make his reconsider.

Coach Sasha Djordjevic reacted on the spot, asking him to stay and his close friend Nemanja Bjelica added in an interview to “Sportski Zurnal”: “I think this is not the end, he will change your mind. We’ll see. I will talk to him! He can not leave us until we win one gold medal”.

Markovic is a key part of the team, the deputy captain under Milos Teodosic and for many the “silent leader” who can changed the tempo of the game when needed. He has also won a silver medal in the 2014 FIBA World Cup with Serbia and he will play in the Russian club Zenit St.Petersburg for the upcoming season.
