An emblematic figure for Russian basketball passed away at the age of 79

Victor Zubkov, former player of Team USSR and CSKA Moscow passed away today. He was 79.

Zubkov was born on April 24, 1937 in Rostov-on-Don. He started playing basketball for Burevestnik Rostov-on-Don and moved to the Army team in 1957, spending 10 seasons here. He has become 2-times European Champions’ Cup winner (1961, 63), 8-times USSR champion (1959-66), 2-times USSR People Spartakiade winner (1959, 63) with CSKA Moscow; 2-times Olympic silver winner (1956, 60), World Championship bronze winner (1963), 3-times European champion (1957, 1959, 1961), best center of European Championship (1959) with Team USSR.

With an announcement, players, coaches and staff of CSKA expressed their deepest condolences to Victor’s relatives and friends.
