The heat of last night’s derby between Fenerbahe and Galatasaray for the Turkish Basketball Super League hasn’t calmed down yet. And it seems it won’t for quite some time…

Fenerbahce released an announcement regarding the behavior of Goksenin Koksal (which the club refused to call by his name, simply mentioning the number of his jersey). Τhe Turkish league defending champs accuse Koksal for rude behavior towards the team’s fans.

“In the third quarter of yesterday’s game between Fenerbahce and Galatasaray, especially when our team started to increase its difference, our opponent’s “no. 61” swore and did some gestures with his body towards our fans. Everybody knows that.

We are going to file a complaint for all the player’s provocations, curses and unsportsmanlike actions against Fenerbahce with all necessary evidence according to law no. 6222 and Turkish Basketball Disciplinary Instructions.”

It didn’t take long for Galatasaray to answer, mentioning the disruption of the game after some Fenerbahce fans began throwing items to the bench of the “Cimbom”, most likely aimed towards Koksal.

“Before an important game which we are going to play in the 20th of November (football match between Galatasaray and Fenerbahce) we are keeping our right of replying to a club that talks about sports friendship, fair play and peace only when it is to their favor. We condemn that statement which aims to provoke the public opinion and tries to create tension.

We aren’t going to be a part of the ridiculous perception that is created after the game around our player, Goksenin Koksal. But that doesn’t mean we will let our player stand alone against baseless claims.

Trying to “launder” the disgrace (for which the club’s president and team captain made an announcement in order to avoid punishment) that happened in the arena against our team captain is an insult to the Turkish people’s intelligence.”
