Alex Mumbru may be 37 years old but his class is undisputed. And in Bilbao’s 91 – 76 win against Manresa, the veteran forward put enough of his quality at work to earn MVP honors of the Week 8 in the Spanish League.

With a top notch, all-around performance of 22 points (on 4/8 two-pointers, 4/6 three-pointers), 8 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals, Mumbru led his team back to victories after three consecutive defeats, registering a number of 36 in the evaluation system. More than any other player from a winning team this week in Spain.

His output is already superb but it becomes even more impressive if you take into account that no player in the Spanish League has produced this kind of numbers (22 p. 8 r. 7 a. 5 stl.) in a single game since Michael Anderson in 1996 with Sevilla.

Mumbru realizes that individual performances don’t mean much without a victory. “The important thing is to win. Numbers are useless if we don’t win,” he said in Liga Endesa’s website, adding that: “The whole team had a great game. We needed to gain confidence with a victory.”
