In the aftermath of Darussafaka Dogus’ grand road victory over Fenerbahce, David Blatt admitted that he will no longer have Ainars Bagatskis at his side as an assistant since the Latvian coach is about to take the helm of Maccabi Tel Aviv.

“They haven’t signed a deal yet, but it’s something that will happen very soon,” Blatt said to Greek “Euroleague Show” TV program when asked about Bagatskis being close to the head coach position of Maccabi Tel Aviv. “I’m very happy that people that helped me are moving forward and I’m very proud for him.”

Blatt mentioned that he couldn’t stand on the way of his soon-to-be ex assistant and his ambition to coach a big EuroLeague club. “I am a professional coach and I know how it is for a coach to have important opportunities in his career. We have talked and I am very happy that he will go to Maccabi. I wish him good luck.”
