Maccabi Tel Aviv Basketball Club announced the signing of Ainars Bagatskis as head coach of the team till the end of the 16/17 season, with an option for one more season.
According to the press release: “Bagatskis is an offensive-oriented coach that preaches ball movement and fast pace. He excels in specific game preparation with attention to detail. He has vast knowledge and is familiar with recent global trends of the game benefitting from his experience in European basketball as both a player and a coach”. He is also the head coach of the Latvian national team.
The coach himself added: “I saw the game yesterday up close and I’m happy that I already met the team in Istanbul. I’m honored to receive this job and to coach a great club like Maccabi Tel Aviv. I’m excited to start”.
David Blatt, the head coach of Darussafaka where Bagatskis started the season as his assistant wished him the best: “I wish Ainars and Maccabi the same kind of mutual and successful experience that I enjoyed throughout my years in Maccabi. He is coming to a special club and I believe he can add his touch to a very talented team. I wish him all the best”.
