Iberostar Tenerife and Giorgi Shermadini agreed to renew their contract which now runs up to the conclusion of the 2022-23 season, the Spanish club announced on Wednesday.

“I am very happy to continue here,” noted the 31-year-old Georgian center, “Everybody knows this is a very good club, from the coaches and staff to our great fans. I hope we will keep on enjoying basketball in our attempt to win a title, either in the ACB or the Basketball Champions League.”

Shermadini joined the Spanish outlet last July. His debut Basketball Champions League season set to be extended to September with the conclusion of the 2019-20 campaign features 15.8 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per contest so far. As for his fifth ACB run also currently paused, he posted 18.3 points and 7.1 rebounds per appearance.

“I am extremely sure that this is the best decision for my career,” he added referring to his contract extension, “This team gives me everything and helps me very much on the court. We have great players, one of the strongest squads. Overall, I believe this is the best option for me.”

His side was tied 1-1 in a best-of-three Round of 16 series against Filou Oostende as the BCL season was halted. The season is expected to finish with a Final Eight instead of the traditional Final Four in September.

Fourth place in the ACB standings up to the decision to suspend action includes Tenerife in the 12-team field planned to conclude the 2019-20 season in June, provided health risks are minimized for players, coaches, and officials.
