With the Basketball Champions League Final Eight in Athens in danger of having no fans in attendance, the organization contacted AEK on Wednesday asking for guarantees, as the team stated in a press release.

“We received a letter by BCL in which they ask us to confirm until Thursday if we can meet the requirements for the Final Eight (initial agreements, fan attendance, tickets, etc)”, mentioned AEK.

The Greek government announced Tuesday new measures for the city of Athens, following a rise in COVID-19 cases, that puts the future of the event at stake, though Greek Deputy Minister of Sports Lefteris Avgenakis believes fans can return to the stands in the end.

“Due to the BCL Final Eight, a big sports event that will be hosted in our country after many years, we must rush. And for this reason, we need to reassure there will be fans attending the games. We work together with the health experts and I believe we can make it”, said Avgenakis during an interview with Greek channel SKAI TV.
