ATHENS — Established in 1994, San Pablo Burgos will make its first appearance in the championship game of a European competition Sunday (4/10) when they will play in the Basketball Champions League final.

That fact alone marks a historic occassion for Burgos but it’s definitely far from enough to satisfy the team’s ambitions, guard Alex Renfroe declared.

“We didn’t come here to make history for our club by winning two games,” Renfroe said after the semifinal win over JDA Dijon.

“We can be satisfied with this win but we have to stop there because we have to get ready for another win,” he previously mentioned.

Burgos opened the BCL Final 8 with a blowout win over Hapoel Jerusalem and then controlled the match vs. Dijon for another victory. They will rest Saturday before the biggest game ever for the club.

Renfroe emphasized how crucial it is for him and his teammates to keep a down-to-earth mentality and a clear head ahead for the championship game.

“Right now, we’re just trying to stay focused. We have to stay humble to approach the game the right way. Sunday’s what we’re looking forward to. We’ll see what happenes there.”

While Renfroe finished the semifinal scoreless, he dished out six assists, including four dimes early that helped his team impose its rhythm right from the start.

“I’m going to do my best to get my teammates involved,” he said. “My personal performance… I’m not too concerned with. We won. In every game we have somebody else who chips in major for us. We’re happy to have that.”
