Casademont Zaragoza overcomes a double-digit deficit in the fourth quarter and gets the job done in overtime

Casademont Zaragoza secured a spot in the Basketball Champions League playoffs by defeating Nizhny Novgorod, 98-92, in overtime Tuesday at the FOK “Meshchersky”.

German forward Robin Benzing poured a game-high 23 points. Dylan Ennis threw in 22 more points and Jason Thompson ended up with 20 in the Regular Season Gameday 9 affair.

Sergio Hernandez’s side produced a strong reaction inspired by the three leading scorers after the hosts went up, 73-63, early in the fourth quarter. Benzing with three quick points in overtime set the pace in jumping to 4-1.

The visitors clinched, but the Russian outlet fell to 3-2 setting up a deciding home match versus Falco Szombathely to wrap up Group D.

Artyom Komolov with 20 points, Ivan Strebkov with 17 and Kasey Shepherd with 16 were not enough for a fourth BCL win in a row. Luke Petrasek added a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double.
