Vangelis Angelou has been relieved of his duties as the AEK head coach, the Greek team announced Sunday.

Angelou, 58, returned for a second stint late in the 2020-21 season. Third place in the Basket League Playoffs painted the final picture of his effort.

Stefanos Dedas will replace him after a successful tenure at Hapoel Holon highlighted by the participation in the 2021 Basketball Champions League Final Eight. He is likely to be confirmed soon as the new boss of the lasting BCL original.

Dedas, 39, previously worked in Turkey as the head coach of Bahcesehir Koleji and Gaziantep between 2015 and 2019.

AEK will be starting from scratch under his guidance. Players initially under contract for the 2021-22 season, Nikos Gkikas, Vlado Jankovic, Moses Kingsley, Keith Langford, Dimitris Moraitis, and Vassilis Toliopoulos were released, Eurohoops sources confirm. The Queen has launched talks to keep them but considering financial restrictions.

The players negotiating adjusted contract terms were first reported by SDNA.
