Nine players of Lenovo Tenerife have tested positive for COVID-19, the team announced Monday.

The club based in San Cristobal de La Laguna had detected multiple positive cases upon the return from Italy last week, as communicated on Thursday. The results of the most recent PCR tests confirmed nine players as positive COVID-19 cases.

The players affected by the coronavirus are asymptomatic or facing mild symptoms, as noted by Tenerife. They have been quarantined at their homes, following the guidelines of the implemented health and safety protocols.

The team coached by Txus Vidorreta defeated Banco di Sardegna Sassari to wrap up the Basketball Champions League Regular Season last Tuesday. Up next, Pinar Karsiyaka or Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem in the best-of-three Play-In Series scheduled to start in the first week of January and determine one more team joining Falco Szombathely, Rytas Vilnius, and another team surviving the Play-Ins in Group L of the Round of 16.

The number of players testing positive for coronavirus is likely to force scheduling adjustments focused on Tenerife moving forward in the 2021-22 campaign of FIBA’s premier European club continental competition.

The ACB Regular Season Round 15 home fixture opposite Valencia has been postponed by the Spanish League. It was initially scheduled for Wednesday, 29 December.

Coming off three losses in a row, Tenerife sits in a four-way tie in fourth place on the ACB table. Valencia, UCAM Murcia, and Bitci Baskonia, and Tenerife, all carry an 8-6 W-L record.
