Hungary champion Falco Szombathely keeps key big man Akos Keller for two more years

Akos Keller signed a two-year contract extension with Falco Szombathely, the team announced Wednesday.

Keller, 33, returned home to Hungary and joined the team based in Szombathely midway through the 2020-21 season. He has since been crowned NB I/A champion twice upping his personal total to seven and logged 13 appearances in the Basketball Champions League. In his first full campaign at Falco, he averaged 6.9 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.7 blocks per game in the Champions League, and 9.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 0.7 steals, and 0.7 blocks per contest in the domestic league.

“It was an easy decision because I feel good in Szombathely, the atmosphere in games is great, and I like the team relying on Hungarian players and I hope it stays that way,” he commented on penning a new contract, per the press release, “I want to play basketball at a high level for the next two years.”

The former player of Alba Fehervar, Szolnoki Olaj, and Egis Kormend competing abroad produced experience at France’s Elan Bearnais Pau-Lacq-Orthez, Croatia’s Zadar, Italy’s Capo d’Orlando, and Poland’s Slask Wroclaw.

Beyond the Hungary champions launching offseason moves ahead of the 2022-23 BCL Regular Season, a couple of Turkish participants were busy earlier. Galatasaray Nef penned 24-year-old forward Sinan Saglam to a contract for the next season with an option for an additional season, while FIBA Europe Cup champion Bahcesehir Koleji re-signed youngster Ahmet Safa Yilmaz for one more season.
