Snapping the last remaining undefeated streak of the Basketball Champions League fails to keep Dinamo Banco di Sardegna Sassari in the competition

Digging their way out of a 15-point hole, Dinamo Banco di Sardegna Sassari defeated Unicaja, 92-82, Tuesday.

Highlighting the bunch of six double-digit scorers in Palacio de Deportes Jose Maria Martin Carpena, Jamal Jones poured 21 points. Gerald Robinson threw in 17 points and seven assists. Banking in ten points in the second half, Deshawn Stephens tallied 13 points to go along with eight rebounds, three assists, and one steal. Stefano Gentile and Kaspar Treier were both out of Piero Bucchi’s lineup.

The Giants winning in Malaga and finishing Group G of the Basketball Champions League Regular Season at 2-4 was not enough to clinch a berth in the Play-In. The favorable Gameday 6 outcome also required JDA Dijon to beat PAOK mateco in the other game of the finale but that was not the case. The exit from continental competition forcing more focus on Italy’s LBA Serie A, Sassari hopes to improve the current 5-6 record, tied for eighth in the standings.

Coming in at 5-0, guaranteed to top the group and placed in Group K of the Round of 16, head coach Ibon Navarro opted to rest captain Alberto Diaz. Tyson Carter logged a team-high 14 points in the losing effort. David Kravish and Jonathan Barreiro followed with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

With the Champions League campaign resuming in late January, the Malaga outfit will play exclusively in Spain’s Liga Endesa for the next month. It currently sits at 8-4, tied for fifth in the ACB standings.
