Turn of events for Limoges CSP, who announced the release of Javontae Hawkins following the player’s request to leave the team and the arrival of Marek Klassen, who will substitute him. The French team is currently last in Group K of the BCL Round of 16, and 9th in the LNB standings.

The 30-year-old Canadian point guard, who started the 2022-23 season with ERA Nymburk, averaged 14.3 points, 8.8 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game in the Basketball Champions League Regular Season, joined Prometey in the EuroCup on Christmas Eve.

With the Ukrainian side, he had 1.8 points and 2.0 assists per game in just four EuroCup appearances, but his numbers were better in the Latvian-Estonian League, where he had 7.5 points and 4.9 points in eight games.

“During the break, Javontae asked me to ask for his departure. After long conversations, I accepted his request but there is inevitably a feeling of disappointment due to his premature departure. That said, it allowed us to rebalance the team by signing Marek who has a much more creative profile. He will be able to help us with his passing game and allow Jayvon to find his natural position. Now we are all focused on our goal of the Playoffs for this end of the season”, the sporting director of the club Kevin Anstett said.

Massimo Cancellieri, head coach of the French side, also commented on Marek Klassen’s arrival. “We are facing a major change for us. With Marek, we made a different choice: we wanted to take a combo playmaker who will help Bryce and the team with the construction of the game. This is a totally different profile from Hawkins. I think it can work. We like his way of helping the team and building the game for him but also for others”, the Italian said.
