Returning to the Basketball Champions League, Le Mans adds DeVante’ Jones to the 2023-24 squad

Spending the first season of his professional career in France, DeVante’ Jones committed to another campaign in Betclic Elite LNB Pro A and expanded to the Basketball Champions League as well.

Le Mans announced the addition of Victor Wembanyama’s friend and former teammate, one year after he finished his NCAA career at Michigan. From playing with Wemby at Metropolitans 92, he moved forward dropping in for MSB in its BCL bid.

Jones, 25, averaged 8.0 points, 4.5 assists, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.1 steals per contest alongside the generational talent. He joined Leopold Delaunay, Selom Mawugbe, Williams Narace, Abdoulaye Ndoye, D’Shawn Schwartz, and Will Yeguete as current members of Le Mans.

Tenerife retains Cook, Karsiyaka re-ups two more players

Projected for respective direct tickets to the BCL Regular Season, Lenovo Tenerife and Pinar Karsiyaka have been busy.

The Canary Islands outfit, a two-time champion of FIBA Europe’s top-tier club continental competition, used the contract option to keep 30-year-old forward Elgin Cook for the next season.

The team based in Izmir in a trend of re-signing players retained 23-year-old forward Ergi Tirpanci with a two-year contract extension and 32-year-old center Deniz Kilicli for the next season. Exiting, Vitto Brown will join Bahcesehir Koleji, according to Eurohoops sources.

PAOK reunited with Michalis Tsairelis. The 35-year-old Greek big previously played for the Thessaloniki outfit from 2012 to 2014. Also, EWE Baskets Oldenburg tabbed 20-year-old point guard Len Schoormann.

On potential Qualifiers bids, BG Gottingen captain Harper Kamp penned a one-year contract extension and FMP SoccerBet inked Balsa Zivanovic to a three-year contract.

Bonn signs Florian Koch and Till Pape

Defending champions Telekom Baskets Bonn announced the first newcomers ahead of the 2022-23 season. After hiring Roel Moors, the German club reunited with youth product Florian Koch, six years after his departure, and Till Pape shaped the other addition to the squad. In contrast, both Tyson Ward and Zachary Ensminger were released.

Koch, 31, played 204 games across all competitions with Bonn until 2017. The next steps were at MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg accompanied by 25 appearances in the Champions League, s.Oliver Wurzburg, and JobStairs GIESSEN 46ers. Reduced to Germany’s second-tier division last season, he averaged 18.6 points per game for Dragons Rhoendorf.

Pape, 25, worked his way back to the easyCredit BBL tallying 11.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game as a member of BG Gottingen last season. From 14 games played in the 7DAYS EuroCup with ratiopharm Ulm and two in FIBA Europe Cup with Gottingen, he is set to expand his continental experience to the BCL.

Dan Shamir takes over Bnei Herzliya

Candidates for the 2023-24 Champions League field, Bnei Ofek Dist Herzliya and Galatasaray Nef are preparing for the next season.

The Israeli side hired Dan Shamir as the new head coach. After working under Ettore Messina at EA7 Emporio Armani Milan for the 2022-23 season, the experienced play-caller returned to his home country by penning a two-year contract with an option for an additional season. Following up, Sandy Cohen re-signed for the 2023-24 season.

The Lions officially added Ismet Akpinar, confirming the recent report of Eurohoops on the deal with the 28-year-old combo guard. Coming up next will be 31-year-old forward/center Miralem Halilovic, as added by our own Semih Tuna.
